The Law states that unless your dwelling is situated in an Area of Outstanding Beauty*, you property can have up to 70 square metres of what is known as permitted development. This is space that can be added to your propertys footprint on the side or rear with going for formal planning permission.

* Area of Outstanding Beauty are mainly situated in the countryside or within a conservation area, they can be located in older village or towns centres where planner feel that by forming a loft conversion may have an adverse affect on the look of the property.
